Uddhav Thackeray resigns as Maharashtra chief minister: Soon after the Supreme Court of India gave its nod to a floor test in the Maharashtra assembly on Wednesday, battling chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that he is resigning from his post. This has now left the state’s politics in deep uncertainty as no party has the numbers to form the government.

India to hold vice presidential election on August 6: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced the schedule of the vice-presidential election which will be held on August 6. The term of incumbent vice president M Venkaiah Naidu will conclude on August 10.

Delhi Police examines financial transactions of arrested Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair: The Delhi Police on Wednesday wrote to several banks seeking information about bank accounts and other financial transactions of Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of Indian fact-checking website Alt News, who is under police custody over an “objectionable” tweet, officials said, Press Trust of India reported.

Cornered Shiv Sena-led government of Maharashtra renames Aurangabad, Osmanabad ahead of trust vote: The Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to rename the city of Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party mocked the step saying the Sena was trying to prove its “Hindutva credentials”.

Protest in Udaipur over murder of Hindu tailor turns violent, police constable seriously injured: A police constable was seriously injured in clashes that broke out between the law-keepers and protesters in Bhim town of Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. The protest was being held against the gruesome killing of a Hindu tailor in a busy market place in broad daylight in Udaipur by two radicalised Muslim men on Tuesday (28).
