Eknath Shinde takes oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra: Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Thursday took oath as the 20th chief minister of the western Indian state of Maharashtra after a rebellion in the Sena left the MVA government led by Uddhav Thackeray collapsed on Wednesday (29). Shinde became the chief minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is backing him, decided to not to go for the post and two-time chief minister Devendra Fadnavis became the deputy chief minister. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi congratulated both Shinde and Fadnavis.

China opposes India’s reported plans to hold G20 meeting in J&K: China on Thursday voiced its opposition to India’s reported plans to hold the 2023 meeting of G-20 leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, echoing close ally Pakistan’s objection, and underlined that relevant sides should avoid “unilateral moves” that may “complicate” the situation. “We have noted this latest development,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a media briefing in Beijing on Thursday while replying to a question from the official media.
