Twitter moves Indian court challenging Modi government’s orders to take down content: Social media giant Twitter has approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the Narendra Modi government’s order to take down content from its platform under the new Information Technology (IT) regulations. The government had given one last opportunity to Twitter to comply with the takedown notices under the IT Act.
Several former judges, bureaucrats & armymen slam Indian Supreme Court over Nupur Sharma remarks: The controversy around suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma has taken a new twist with India’s Supreme Court now coming under the scanner over its scathing observations over her viewpoints that saw a massive backlash both in India and abroad. As many as 15 former judges, 77 former bureaucrats and 25 retired army officers have slammed the apex court’s recent remarks on Sharma that included a direct accusation of being “single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country”.
Indian plane headed for Dubai lands in Pakistani city: An aircraft of India’s SpiceJet airline, which took off from Delhi for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday (5), landed in Karachi in Pakistan after developing a technical snag. The SpiceJet SG-11 flight had to make the unscheduled landing and all passengers were reported to be safe.
Goddess Kaali is meat-eating, alcohol-accepting, says Indian parliamentarian Mahua Moitra on poster row: At a time when Hindus in India and in other parts of the world have slammed the poster of a film made by an Indian-born woman which shows Goddess Kaali smoking, Indian parliamentarian Mahua Moitra has backed the spirit behind the poster saying one has the freedom to imagine his/her goddess. “Kaali to me, is a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess. You have the freedom to imagine your goddess. There are some places where whiskey is offered to gods and in some other places it would be blasphemy.”
PM Modi, Amit Shah have assured full support for Maharashtra, says CM Shinde: Maharashtra’s new chief minister Eknath Shinde has said Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah have assured him full support for the development and growth of the state. “He (the PM) told me that he and the central government would support me. Even Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed his full support. They said I am good work for Hindutva,” Shinde said.
