THE Birmingham Police on Friday (8) said a fan was arrested for a “racially aggravated public order offence”, following reports of racist behaviour towards Indian fans during the recently concluded Test match between England and India at Edgbaston.

Allegations flooded social media after the end of the fourth day’s play of the match which the hosts won by 7 wickets to level the 2021 series 2-2.
Several Indian fans made claims on Twitter that they had faced racist abuse from other fans during the match towards the end of Day 4.
The incident was also highlighted on Twitter by former Yorkshire spinner Azeem Rafiq, whose allegations of racism at the club had rocked English cricket last year.
Earlier, Warwickshire Country Cricket Club promised to work harder to deliver its zero-tolerance approach against racism on the premises of its home venue Edgbaston.
The venue was set to witness yet another international fixture on Saturday (9) when England and India lock horns over the second T20 international. India are leading the three-match series 1-0, thanks to their dominant 50-run win at Southampton on Thursday (7).
