India and Israel on Tuesday inked an agreement that will allow 42,000 Indian workers to work in the Jewish state in the fields of construction and nursing, a move expected to help deal with the rising cost of living and assist thousands of families waiting for nursing care. Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen, who reached New Delhi on Tuesday morning for a three-day visit but announced cutting it short because of the security situation arising out of Israel’s operations in the Gaza Strip, held talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The ministers discussed ways to strengthen Indo-Israel ties by “adding direct flights, continuing cooperation in agriculture and water management, and expanding cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence and cyber defence”, according to a Hebrew press statement from the Israeli foreign ministry.
As Go First awaits the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) verdict on its voluntary insolvency resolution plea, lessors have sought deregistration of nine more aircraft of the crisis-hit airline, PTI reported. In one week, various lessors have approached aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for deregistration and repossession of a total of 45 planes of Go First. The NCLT is set to pronounce the order on the carrier’s petition on Wednesday. Go First stopped flying from May 3 and aviation regulator DGCA on Monday directed the airline to stop sale of tickets till further orders. Lessors have sought deregistration of nine more planes of the airline, according to an update from the DGCA.
Indian information and technology and communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday met Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the tech giant’s headquarters in the US, and the two discussed India stack and ‘Make in India’ programme. Vaishnaw later tweeted about his meeting with Google top honcho. “Met @sundarpichai at the @Google HQ. Good discussion on India Stack and Make in India program,” he said.
India’s department of telecommunication on Tuesday said it weeded out and disconnected 51,260 fake SIM cards of different Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) in the eastern state of Odisha to curb the menace of cyber crimes, ANI reported. These SIMs were non-bonafide mobile connections. The department has conceptualised and implemented artificial intelligence-based facial recognition tool called ASTR for telecom SIM subscriber verification with a vision to analyse, identify and weed out fake/forged, non-bonafide mobile connections for curbing the menace of cyber crimes.
