People came out to express solidarity, not only with words but also action, after a three-train collision killed nearly 300 people and injured several hundreds more in Balasore in the eastern Indian state of Odisha on Friday (2) night.
According to reports, people queued up in large numbers at a hospital in Balasore where the injured were undergoing treatment to donate blood.

Odisha’s chief secretary Pradeep Jena said people were voluntarily coming to donate blood and he was getting a high number of requests. He also thanked the local people for coming to the aid of the rescue professionals since the accident took place around 7.30 pm local time on Friday, leaving the site in a massive mess with coaches piling up.
“People are coming voluntarily to donate blood. I am getting requests from many places so it is a good sign. Since the accident till now, the local people have been providing a lot of assistance to our rescue professionals,” the official was quoted as saying by Asian News International.

The post shared by ANI about people coming forward to donate blood has been receiving a lot of positive reactions and people applauded their initiatives.

Meanwhile, Indian railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who paid a visit to the accident site, called the accident a “big tragic” one and that various quarters, including the railways and the Odisha government, were conducting the rescue operation. He said compensation has already been announced and a high-level committee has been set up to probe the accident.
