ROHAN PANDEY, an OpenAI employee, has quit his job and plans to work towards building an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) system for the Sanskrit language.
The Indian-American was a member of OpenAI’s training team and part of its artificial intelligence lab.
Sharing the news on social media, Pandey thanked his colleagues and looked forward towards his new venture.
He shared that he will be dedicating his immediate future to digitizing the Sanskrit language.
“Until then, I’ll be taking a break to solve OCR for Sanskrit so we can immortalize the classical Indian literary canon in the weights of superintelligence,” he tweeted.
His announcement has sparked interest across both the tech and academic communities.
