Lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret has taken its U.S. website offline and temporarily halted some in-store services following a major security incident that prompted immediate action. The company confirmed that the website went dark on Wednesday as a precautionary measure while third-party cybersecurity experts investigate the breach.
When users tried to access the site, they were met with a stark black screen bearing a message:
“Valued customer, we identified and are taking steps to address a security incident. We have taken down our website and some in store services as a precaution. Our team is working around the clock to fully restore operations. We appreciate your patience during this process. In the meantime, our Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores remain open and we look forward to serving you.”
While the specifics of the incident remain undisclosed, it is not yet clear whether any customer data was compromised. A spokesperson for Victoria’s Secret told FOX Business that the company acted swiftly, implementing its internal security response protocols and engaging third-party experts to assess and address the situation.
“We are working to quickly and securely restore operations,” the spokesperson said.
The company, which generated approximately $2 billion in digital sales in 2024, or roughly one-third of its total revenue, has felt the immediate impact. Following news of the website shutdown, shares of Victoria’s Secret & Co. (NYSE: VSCO) dropped by nearly 7%, closing down 6.88% for the day.
The incident is especially significant given the increasing reliance on e-commerce in the retail sector. As of now, there is no confirmation on whether law enforcement has been involved in the investigation.
Physical Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores across the U.S. remain operational. However, with digital operations accounting for a substantial portion of revenue, restoring online services remains a top priority for the retailer.
This cyber-related disruption comes amid growing concerns about cybersecurity threats across industries, raising questions about how well retail giants are prepared to handle data breaches and digital vulnerabilities.
Victoria’s Secret has not yet offered a timeline for when the website will be back online.
