Adam Sandler tops 2025 list of highest-paid actors as streaming deals dominate Hollywood paychecks

The latest earnings data shows a major shift in Hollywood’s pay structure. Streaming platforms are now driving actor income, while traditional box office success has become less reliable despite studios still paying huge salaries to major stars.

Adam Sandler tops 2025 list of highest-paid actors as streaming deals dominate Hollywood paychecks

Adam Sandler attends the 41st Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival: Maltin Modern Master Award Honoring Adam Sandler at The Arlington Theatre on February 05, 2026 in Santa Barbara, California.

Highlights:

  • Adam Sandler topped the 2025 highest-paid actors list with $60 million in gross earnings.
  • Total income for the top 20 actors dropped to $590 million from $730 million the previous year.
  • Streaming platforms like Netflix, Apple, and Amazon played a major role in actor earnings.
  • Studios still rely on big stars to attract audiences to major films.
  • Younger actors such as Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet are expected to rise in future rankings.

Hollywood’s pay hierarchy remains enormous, but the latest numbers show that the industry is going through a major shift. While major movie stars still earn massive salaries, fewer actor-driven films are consistently turning into strong box office hits.

According to new figures reported by Forbes, the combined earnings of the 20 highest-paid actors in 2025 reached about $590 million. That is a noticeable drop from the $730 million recorded the previous year. The decline reflects changes in how films are produced, distributed, and financed, especially with the growing influence of streaming platforms.

Actor Adam Sandler topped the list of highest-paid actors in 2025. He earned about $60 million in gross income and around $48 million after fees. Although that amount placed him first on the list, it was still significantly lower than the $88 million earned by the top star in the previous year.

Sandler’s continued success highlights the importance of streaming deals in today’s entertainment industry. His long-term partnership with Netflix remains one of the most stable and profitable agreements for any actor. The arrangement has allowed him to consistently release films directly on the platform while maintaining strong earnings.

The Forbes report suggests that streaming services have become the safest financial space for many actors. At the same time, traditional movie studios continue to rely on famous names when launching major film projects.

For example, Scarlett Johansson starred in the big-budget film “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” produced by Universal Pictures. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt appeared in the racing drama F1, which was backed by Apple.

Another major example is Robert Downey Jr., who returned to the Marvel universe for “Avengers: Doomsday.” His compensation across two upcoming films is estimated to exceed $100 million, showing that major franchises still command huge salaries for established stars.

Streaming platforms, however, offered the most reliable financial opportunities for actors in 2025. Denzel Washington secured a large streaming deal for the film “Highest 2 Lowest.” Daniel Craig continued earning strong paychecks through the popular “Knives Out” franchise on Netflix.

Actors like Mark Wahlberg have also become closely linked with streaming services, working on projects with Amazon and Apple. At the same time, Millie Bobby Brown has emerged as one of the clearest examples of a streaming-era star reaching the top income bracket.

Despite these successes, the list also shows how unpredictable star power has become. Leonardo DiCaprio had a film, “One Battle After Another,” that did not perform as strongly as expected. However, his reputation and long career still keep him among the industry’s highest earners.

Meanwhile, rising actors like Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney earned strong upfront salaries but still face questions about whether they can maintain long-term box office appeal.

Industry analysts believe that the next generation of top-paid actors could include names like Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, and Zendaya. These younger performers have already built strong followings and are starring in major film franchises.

Overall, the 2025 earnings list suggests that while traditional movie stardom still matters, streaming platforms are now playing a crucial role in shaping how actors earn their biggest paychecks.
