Two new chapters announced at The Game Awards
Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics announce two major Tomb Raider titles at The Game Awards in Los Angeles, giving fans both a reimagined version of Lara Croft’s first adventure and a brand-new story built on the franchise’s legacy. The games, powered by Unreal Engine 5, are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027.
Legacy of Atlantis revisits Lara’s origins
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, developed with Flying Wild Hog, brings the 1996 classic to modern systems. The game uses Unreal Engine 5 to update environments, puzzles, and combat while staying true to the tone of the original.
Players follow Lara as she travels through remote, long-lost locations, navigates dangerous terrain, solves intricate traps, and confronts deadly creatures while searching for the scattered pieces of the Scion, an artifact of immense power. The game arrives in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos says the partnership with Amazon Game Studios gives the teams the support needed to deliver their full vision across both projects.
Catalyst begins a new era for Lara Croft
The next mainline entry, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, has been in development since 2022 and marks a bold shift for the franchise. Set across Northern India, the game features the largest world ever created for a Tomb Raider title. Lara uncovers newly revealed ancient secrets as powerful forces from the past collide with the modern day.
The game, also built in Unreal Engine 5, presents the confident and iconic version of Lara that has shaped the series for decades. Catalyst launches in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
