A SUSPECTED terror module, which allegedly planned to make India an Islamic nation by 2047, has been busted in Patna, the capital of the eastern Indian state of Bihar, and two suspected terrorists have been arrested.

It was also claimed that a plot was in place to target Indian prime minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bihar and its neighbour Jharkhand on Tuesday (12).

The arrested were identified as Athar Parvez and Mohammad Jallaluddin, who is a retired police officer from Jharkhand, police said. They were held in the Phulwari Sharif area of Patna.

“The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Jallauddin, a retired Jharkhand police officer, and Athar Parvez. They have links with PFI (Popular Front of India, an extremist organisation) . Jallauddin was earlier associated with Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI),” Phulwari Sharif assistant superintendent of Police Manish Kumar said.

“They were teaching locals how to use swords and knives and also instigating them for communal violence. An investigation has revealed that people from other states were visiting them in Patna. Those visitors used to change their names while staying in hotels in the Bihar capital to conceal their identities,” he said.

It was reported that the suspected terrorists were receiving training in Phulwari Sharif for a fortnight ahead of Modi’s visit. They also held meetings on July 6 and 7 to plot ways to target Modi. The state police conducted raids at the suspected duo’s office and found incriminating documents, including one titled ‘2047 India Towards Rule of Islamic India’. More than 20 PFI pamphlets were also found from them.

The Intelligence Bureau, India’s internal intelligence agency, received information about a possible terrorist module which was in operation in Phulwari Sharif after which the police raids were conducted and two arrests made.

Investigations revealed that most of the youths who visited the place used to come from states such as Kerala, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and others to receive training in terror.

The police said the arrested duo used to receive funding from many Islamic countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey, to run anti-India campaigns.

The elite National Investigation Agency has joined the investigation into the Patna terror module. It reportedly picked a third suspect, sources said.
