Billie Eilish denounces Met Gala images, says ‘I wasn’t there – that’s AI!”

Billie Eilish confirms she did not attend the 2025 Met Gala, calling viral photos of her at the event “AI.” The singer was performing live in Amsterdam that night and took to Instagram to set the record straight.

Pop star Billie Eilish has slammed online images claiming to show her attending the 2025 Met Gala, labeling them as AI-generated fakes. The singer, currently on her Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour, took to Instagram to debunk the viral images and clarify that she was not at the fashion event—because she was performing in Amsterdam on the very same night.

Responding to online comments criticizing her supposed outfit at the Met Gala, Eilish shared a story on Instagram saying, “Seeing people talk about what I wore to this year’s Met Gala being trash… I wasn’t there. That’s AI!” Laughing off the absurdity, she added, “I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be!”

While Eilish is no stranger to the Met Gala—famously becoming the youngest-ever co-chair at age 19 in 2021—this year she was firmly occupied with tour commitments. Her Amsterdam performance on the evening of the Met Gala made it impossible for her to attend the New York City event in person, debunking the AI-generated images that rapidly made the rounds on social media.

The controversy points to a growing concern in the entertainment industry: the use of AI to fabricate celebrity appearances. Eilish’s situation underscores how easily deepfake images can mislead fans and spark unnecessary commentary, especially during high-profile cultural events like the Met Gala.

During her Amsterdam concert, Eilish gave fans a special treat by performing a full version of her haunting cover of Radiohead’s Creep—a track she had never performed live in full before. The moment was a highlight in what’s already proving to be a landmark tour for the Grammy-winning artist.

Eilish’s admiration for Radiohead is well-documented. In 2019, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke praised her individuality and creativity, saying, “She’s doing her own thing. Nobody’s telling her what to do.” Eilish’s tour manager later confirmed that Yorke met her backstage and told her, “You’re the only one doing anything fucking interesting nowadays.”

Beyond the tour, Eilish has remained active on social and environmental fronts. She recently announced a new round of her Overheated climate action events in London and Berlin. These events are designed to unite musicians, designers, and climate activists to share knowledge, build community, and offer actionable solutions to fight the climate crisis.

In addition to her live performances, Eilish also surprised fans at Coachella 2025 by joining Charli XCX onstage for a live rendition of their Guess remix. The performance followed a Grammy nomination and a charitable campaign tied to the track’s music video, which collected over 10,000 donated pairs of pants.

As Billie Eilish continues to balance musical innovation with climate advocacy, she’s also reminding fans to be cautious about what they see online—especially when AI can so easily blur the lines between fact and fiction.
