OVER 300 people of Indian heritage, who grew up in Walsall, UK, and surrounding areas, recently had a reunion in Atlanta, Georgia.

During the three-day event from May 8-11, old classmates, neighbors, and friends got to see each other after decades.

For this group, born or raised in the UK, and settled in the US, the connection with India remains strong.

This reunion was more than a social gathering, it was a celebration of identity and belonging.

They recalled the heartfelt stories of life in Walsall, growing up in terraced houses, walking to school in the snow and memorable community gatherings.

Others shared tales of their parents’ sacrifices as immigrants, the joys and struggles of settling in the UK, and the bonds formed in the tight-knit Indian neighborhoods of the Black Country.

Every detail of the event was planned with care.

Music and laughter echoed through the evenings, and there was a high tea for the women among the group.

But it was the stories told around the bar and around dinner tables that truly defined the weekend.

One attendee summed it up beautifully: “We left Walsall years ago, but this weekend reminded us of our humble roots and we know we are who we are because of those roots.”

As the reunion came to a close on Sunday, plans are being made for the next gathering.
