A flash flood warning has been issued across parts of the Philadelphia region, including Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and Camden and Burlington counties in New Jersey, following a bout of heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning that dropped up to two inches of precipitation in some areas.
Although the heaviest rainfall has moved out, scattered showers continued through Wednesday afternoon, prompting weather alerts as the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers swelled with runoff. According to the National Water Prediction Service, the Delaware River was expected to crest above flood stage at its Washington Avenue station in Philadelphia by early Thursday morning.
In Burlington, New Jersey, the river had already risen above its minor flood stage of 9.3 feet by Wednesday morning and is forecasted to reach moderate flood levels overnight.
The flash flood warning remains in effect until 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, as local creeks and low-lying areas face continued flood risks.
Looking ahead, more scattered showers are likely to linger into Wednesday (14) night and Thursday (15) morning, accompanied by patchy fog and possible isolated storms. However, sunshine is expected to return Thursday afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 70 degrees.
As the Gulf Coast storm system exits the region by Thursday, another weather system approaches from the west, bringing warmer air and a chance of more storms on Friday afternoon and again late Saturday, as a cold front passes through. Despite the unsettled pattern, the weekend promises warmer temperatures and periods of sunshine, with highs in the low to mid-80s.
Sunday is forecasted to be mostly sunny and seasonable, while Monday brings continued sunshine with slightly cooler temperatures.
