THE devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic continues to recede in India as the country reported 60,753 daily new cases in the last 24 hours, the country’s health ministry said on Saturday (19). In the previous 24 hours, India reported 62,480 new cases. India’s total number of coronavirus cases has now reached 29,823,546 while the number of active cases stood at 760,019, which is the lowest in 74 days. The death toll stands at 385,137 with 1,647 fresh fatalities and active cases constituting 2.55 percent of the total infections. The data also showed the national Covid-19 recovery rate to have improved to over 96 percent.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said less than 100,000 cases have been reported for 12 consecutive days for now in the country and it was because of “sustained and collaborative efforts” both by the central government and the states and Union Territories.

A net decline of more than 38,000 is witnessed in the last 24 hours. The country’s daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for 37 consecutive days now. Testing has also been ramped up across the country and according to the health ministry, a total of 1,902,009 tests were done in the last 24 hours. Overall, India has carried out 389,207,637 tests till now.
