Here are some news in brief related to Indian politics for Wednesday, August 10, 2022:

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the opposition Indian National Congress over their serial protests that started with the beginning of the monsoon session of the Indian parliament last month and reached a culmination when its leaders, including parliamentarians and workers, turned up in black clothes on August 5, reportedly to protest over issues such as price rise, unemployment, etc. “Some people are resorting to black magic as they are immersed in despair and negativity. On August 5, there was an attempt to propagate black magic. These people think that by wearing black clothes they will be able to end their period of despair,” Modi said, slamming the Congress.

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the chief minister of the eastern Indian state of Bihar for the record eighth time at the Raj Bhavan in Patna, the state capital, on Wednesday. This came a day after a huge political turmoil in the state, after which he broke the alliance of his Janata Dal-United (JD-U) with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and announced to form a new “Grand Alliance” which includes Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other Opposition parties. Yadav took oath as the deputy chief minister.

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday granted regular bail to activist and poet Dr P Varavara Rao, an accused in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence case, on medical grounds. A bench headed by Justice UU Lalit while grating bail to Rao said that he shall not leave the jurisdiction of Greater Mumbai without permission from the Special NIA Court at the city, he shall not misuse his liberty and nor he shall be in touch with any of the witnesses. The apex court further ordered that Rao shall be entitled to have medical treatment of his choice and he shall keep NIA informed about the medical treatment being received by him.

Poll strategist Prashant Kishore who was a former JD(U) leader on Wednesday said that with Nitish Kumar exiting the NDA alliance and forming a new government with RJD and other opposition parties he hopes that the Bihar chief minister stands firm on the alliance and fulfills the aspirations of the people of the state. “I see what’s happening now in the context of the era of political instability in Bihar. Since 2013-14, this is the sixth attempt to form government in Bihar. Formations are changed when one’s political or administrative expectations are not fulfilled,” Kishor told Asian News International. He pointed out that the era of “political instability” has been ongoing for the past 10 years in the state and that Nitish Kumar has remained the only constant in all this and is the main actor and catalyst of the situation.

The opposition Congress in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state of Karnataka in a series of tweets on Wednesday took jibes at the government  and said that the state appears set to see a third chief minister after Indian home minister Amit Shah’s visit to capital Bengaluru last week, ANI reported. The Congress said that the Bommai government, which has not been able to conduct its first-anniversary “Janotsva”, will soon see its end. It also said that it looks like Bommai is counting the hours to leave the chair and asked chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, “Dear Bommai, the ‘sword fight’ for the CM has been started. What is the reason for the change of CM, is it your administrative failure, a fight between leaders, or is it B.S. Yediyurappa’s anger?”
