India reports 86,498 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in 66 days

INDIA reported on Tuesday (8) a daily rise in new coronavirus infections of 86,498 cases over the past 24 hours, the lowest in 66 days, according to a statement by government.

The health ministry said that the daily positivity rate dropped to 4.62 per cent.

The total tally of Covid-19 cases is now 28,996,473 out of which 27,341,462 people have recuperated from the disease.

With 2,123 new daily deaths, the Covid-19 toll climbed to 351,309, the lowest in 47 days, the ministry data showed.

Also, 1,873,485 tests were conducted on Monday (7) taking the total cumulative tests conducted for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 368,207,596.

According to the ministry, the weekly positivity rate has declined to 5.94 per cent.

The active cases reduced to 1,303,702 comprising 4.50 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 94.29 per cent.

A net decline of 97,907 cases has been recorded in the Covid-19 caseload in the past day.

Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 26th consecutive day while the case fatality rate stands at 1.21 per cent, the data stated.

Cumulatively, 236,198,726 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The most number of fatalities on Tuesday were reported from Tamil Nadu (351), Maharashtra and Karnataka (340 each), Kerala (211), and West Bengal (103).
