India reports 92,596 new Covid-19 cases; 2,219 deaths

INDIA on Wednesday (9) reported 92,596 new Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, and 2,219 deaths from the coronavirus.

The country’s total Covid-19 case load now stands at 29.1 million, while total fatalities are at 353,528, according to data from the health ministry.

The number of active cases dropped to 1,231,415, comprising 4.23 per cent of the total infections. The daily infections remained below 100,000 for the second straight day.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 94.55 per cent. A net decline of 72,287 cases has been recorded in the Covid-19 caseload in the past day.

Also, 1,985,967 tests were conducted on Tuesday (8), taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 370,193,563, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.66 per cent.

The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 5.66 per cent. Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for 27 consecutive days.

Cumulatively, 239,058,360 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

India crossed the grim milestone of 10 million cases in November last year and 20 million on May 4, 2021.

The most number of causalities were reported from Maharashtra (101,172), Karnataka (32,099), Tamil Nadu (27,765), Delhi (24,668), Uttar Pradesh (21,425) and West Bengal (16,460), shows the ministry data.
