Wedding plans collapse after days of speculation
What was expected to be a major off-field celebration for Indian cricket has turned into a public breakup. India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and composer-director Palaash Muchhal were set to marry on November 23 in Sangli, but the weekend took a different turn.
The first reports suggested a postponement due to health concerns in both families. Then, online conversations escalated when several women shared alleged chat screenshots involving Palaash, sparking talk of a wider rift. On Sunday, Smriti addressed the situation directly and confirmed that the wedding had been cancelled.

Smriti Mandhana: “The wedding is called off”
After days of intense speculation, Smriti issued a statement through Instagram, saying she felt she needed to speak despite being a private person.
“I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same,” she wrote. She also asked the public to respect the privacy of both families and give them space to move forward.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ quiet support becomes a talking point
As the situation unfolded, teammate and close friend Jemimah Rodrigues remained by Smriti’s side. She had already withdrawn from the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia when the postponement was first reported, reportedly to support Smriti.
After the breakup announcement, Jemimah posted an Instagram story featuring the song Man I Need by Olivia Dean. The lyric on her screen, “Looks like we’re making up for lost time. Need you to spell it out for me”, quickly set off online interpretation, with users linking it to the controversy around Palaash.
Palaash Muchhal responds and wipes proposal video
In the fallout, Palaash removed the proposal video from his Instagram page, and both have unfollowed each other.
He later issued a statement saying, “I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It’s been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me.”
With both Smriti and Palaash now confirming the split, one of cricket’s most anticipated weddings has officially come to an end.
