Trailer debut at Gamescom
The trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight premiered during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. The upcoming title marks the first LEGO Batman game in over a decade, following Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014) and arriving 17 years after the original LEGO Batman.
The trailer immediately drew attention for its abundance of Easter eggs and references spanning decades of Batman films, television, and games.
Adam West’s Batman
The footage includes on-screen onomatopoeia reminiscent of classic comic panels. This is also a nod to Adam West’s 1960s Batman series, which often featured visual sound effects, though no direct references to the show appear otherwise.
Dark Knight trilogy references
The Legacy of the Dark Knight trailer heavily leans on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. One sequence involving shipping containers mirrors Batman’s introduction in Batman Begins. The Joker’s design and mannerisms appear inspired by Heath Ledger’s portrayal, with iconic lines such as “Why so serious?” and “You think darkness is your ally?” directly quoted.
Pattinson’s The Batman
Several elements from Matt Reeves’s The Batman are recreated in LEGO form. The Penguin car chase, Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon, and certain shots are near-identical to scenes from the 2022 film.

Michael Keaton’s Batman world
Tim Burton’s Batman films also receive prominent nods. The trailer’s soundtrack features Danny Elfman’s iconic Batman theme. Additional references include mime-costumed goons, the famous line “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts!,” character designs inspired by Burton’s Catwoman and Penguin, and a building labeled “Shreck,” referencing villain Maximillian Shreck from Batman Returns.
Arkham video game nods
Beyond the films, the trailer acknowledges the Arkham game franchise. Batman’s fighting style and the use of explosive gel echo mechanics from Arkham Asylum and its sequels.
Release date
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled to launch in 2026, bringing together decades of Batman storytelling into LEGO’s signature style.
