Neeson clarifies his stance
Liam Neeson stresses he is “never been and is not” an anti-vaxxer after his role in a new documentary raises questions over his views. The actor narrates Plague of Corruption: 80 Years of Pharmaceutical Corruption Exposed, a film reported by journalists Walker Bragman and Olivia Riggio in the Important Context newsletter.
The project is adapted from a book by Dr. Judy Mikovits, a researcher whose claims have been repeatedly debunked, and attorney Kent Heckenlively, who was previously denied entry to Australia over what authorities called dangerous views.
What the film claims
The documentary promotes itself as an investigation into alleged misconduct within the pharmaceutical industry. Its website describes it as exposing how major companies “capture” governments and mislead communities. It features contributions from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is praised in the film for challenging “institutional corruption” and championing “medical freedom.”
Although Neeson appears only as narrator, his voice is used to repeat claims such as calling mRNA COVID vaccines “dangerous experiments,” labelling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome the “worst health crisis since HIV and AIDS,” and suggesting scientific and medical bodies demand “unconditional submission.”
Neeson’s response
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Neeson’s representatives stress that his narration should not be taken as support for the film’s message. They note that he has long backed vaccination efforts and has worked extensively with UNICEF.
“We all recognize that corruption can exist within the pharmaceutical industry, but that should never be conflated with opposition to vaccines,” the statement reads. His team adds that Neeson did not influence the film’s editorial direction and that questions about its claims should be addressed to its producers.
A surprising project for a vocal vaccine supporter
Neeson’s involvement surprises many, given his public support for vaccination throughout the pandemic. The AV Club previously highlighted a detailed 2022 statement from the actor, in which he described vaccines as “a remarkable human success story” and said the public conversation had forgotten their impact.
“We need to celebrate this,” he said at the time, calling vaccination one of humanity’s major achievements.
The contrast between that record and his role in a film positioned as “the year’s most controversial” fuels renewed discussion around how high-profile voices are used in polarizing health debates.
