- New gameplay trailer shows graphic violence, including Logan’s claws through an enemy’s face
- Developers acknowledge concerns about how far to take the brutality
- Despite the shift in tone, combat and storytelling remain rooted in Insomniac’s style
A violent introduction
Insomniac Games has released a gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, and it makes clear the studio is embracing the character’s brutal reputation. The footage shows Logan lifting a cyborg and driving his claws through its face, a moment that underlines the bloodier direction.
Developers address intensity
Project director Jess Reiner-Reed admitted in a behind-the-scenes video that the claws-through-the-face sequence gave her pause. “That one I thought maybe was going to be taking it too far, but I am so glad that we have it. It looks fantastic,” she said. Senior community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza described the overall tone as “darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac.”
Staying true to Wolverine
Creative director Marcus Smith noted that fans have repeatedly asked whether the game would reflect Wolverine’s violent legacy from the comics. The team’s response, shown through a montage of visceral combat, was an emphatic yes.

Familiar foundation with a sharper edge
While Wolverine departs from the lighter tone of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac says players can still expect fast and fluid combat, cinematic set pieces, and a story built around core themes of the character. Accessibility features will also be included, continuing the studio’s approach of balancing intensity with broad player reach.
