Raveena Tandon recalls rejecting Darr
Raveena Tandon has shared that she was originally approached to play the female lead in Darr (1993), alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol. The role eventually went to Juhi Chawla, and the psychological thriller went on to become one of SRK's defining early performances.
Speaking on the ANI podcast, Tandon said she declined the film due to discomfort with a few scenes. “Darr had come to me first. It wasn’t vulgar, but there were scenes I wasn’t comfortable with,” she said, adding she did not want to wear a swimming costume on screen at the time.
She added, “There were a couple of scenes I was a little uncomfortable about. I used to be uncomfortable with proximity.”
Also passed on Prem Qaidi
Tandon also revealed she had declined Prem Qaidi (1991), which later launched Karisma Kapoor. She explained she felt uneasy about a moment in the script involving a strap revealing scene. “I used to be uncomfortable with a lot of things,” she said, describing her early career boundaries.
Career path and reflection
Despite saying no to those films, Tandon went on to build a successful career in Hindi cinema. Reflecting on her early choices, she said she felt she maintained her comfort zones and personal values at the time.
