Oscar-winning actor Riz Ahmed has been tapped to star in filmmaker David MacKenzie’s next directorial venture, titled Relay.
Touted to be a thriller, the forthcoming project also features actress Lily James on the primary cast.
According to reports, Ahmed will play the character of a fixer called Tom. He specializes in brokering lucrative deals between corrupt corporations and individuals. His character keeps his identity anonymous.
“But when a message arrives one day from potential client Sarah (James), needing Tom’s protection just to stay alive, the rules quickly start to change,” the description further reads.
The makers are looking at taking the film to the floor in April in New York and New Jersey.
Justin Piasecki and MacKensie will write the screenplay of the project bankrolled by Basil Iwanyk under Thunder Road Films banner, Gillian Berrie and MacKenzie for Sigma Films, and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear.
The film’s executive producers are Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Erica Lee, and Charlie Morrison.
The makers have yet to lock in an official date for the film’s release.
Ahmed won an Oscar last year for short film The Long Goodbye. He was also Oscar-nominated for his role in the 2019 film The Sound of Metal. James, on the other hand, was recently seen in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.
