The much-anticipated comedy film Son Of Sardaar 2 is set to release on Friday (1) after a brief postponement from its initial July 25 date.

The delay came as the makers strategically decided to avoid clashing with the unexpectedly successful film Saiyaara, which was showing strong box-office performance and was in its second week of release. With just two days remaining before the new release date, details have emerged about the changes mandated by India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after viewing the film.

The CBFC’s Examining Committee reviewed Son Of Sardaar 2 ahead of its release and notably did not require any visual cuts, allowing all the action sequences in the film to remain intact. However, the committee did request modifications to several dialogues in four specific instances to meet certification guidelines.

One of the most significant changes involved muting the mention of Xi Jinping, the President of China. The committee asked that his name be removed or replaced in the dialogues. Additionally, the word "item," often considered controversial when used in certain contexts, was substituted with the term "madam."

Another phrase, "Kutte ki tarah" (which roughly translates to "like a dog"), was removed and replaced with a softer expression, "Bahut buri tarah" ("in a very bad way"). Finally, a sentence beginning with "Bhagwan…" and ending with "...Pe Lezim" was flagged, and the filmmakers were instructed to replace it with a more suitable line to avoid offending sensibilities.

After these dialogue changes were implemented, Son Of Sardaar 2 was granted a U/A certificate (suggesting parental guidance for children under 13), allowing it to be accessible to a wide audience while maintaining age-appropriate content. The final length of the film, as noted on the censor certificate, is 147 minutes and 32 seconds—equivalent to approximately two hours and 27 minutes.

Son Of Sardaar 2 stars Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn alongside a talented ensemble cast including Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Panday, Sharat Saxena, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, and the late Mukul Dev. The film is produced by Devgn Films and Jio Studios and directed by Vijay Kumar Arora.

This mix of sharp comedy, high-energy action, and a notable cast primes the film for a strong box-office run. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release and curious to see how the film balances its humor with the sensitivity required by the CBFC’s changes, especially regarding political references and language. The censor board’s intervention highlights the ongoing efforts to align content with audience expectations and maintain cultural sensitivities in Indian cinema today.
