First look at Turner as Lara Croft
The first image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft has been unveiled, giving fans an early glimpse of Prime Video’s Tomb Raider reboot.
The Game of Thrones and X-Men actor appears in full adventurer mode, wearing Lara Croft’s signature shorts and sunglasses, with dual pistols in hand. The photo marks the first official look at Turner as the globe-trotting archaeologist and action hero made famous by the video game franchise and earlier film adaptations.
Prime Video also confirmed that filming on the first season has now begun.
A new chapter for Tomb Raider
Turner, 29, takes on one of gaming and cinema’s most recognizable roles. The new series aims to reintroduce Lara Croft to a streaming audience, following years of big-screen versions of the character.
While story details are being kept under wraps, the production is positioned as a fresh take on the franchise rather than a continuation of past films.
Star-studded cast
Alongside Turner, the series features a wide supporting cast including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.
Creative team behind the reboot
The series is created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also serves as executive producer and co-showrunner. Chad Hodge joins her as co-showrunner and executive producer, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing and executive producing.
Production is handled by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. Executive producers include Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Films, along with teams from Story Kitchen, Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
