- Steven Spielberg releases the first trailer for his upcoming UFO drama Disclosure Day
- Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson lead the cast
- The film marks Spielberg’s first feature since The Fabelmans and a return to alien themes
The first trailer for Disclosure Day offers an early look at Steven Spielberg’s next feature, a UFO-driven drama that leans into questions of truth, humanity and life beyond Earth. Written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp and based on a story by Spielberg, the film centers on the global impact of discovering alien life.
The teaser hints at secrecy, public accountability and existential wonder, closing on a line delivered by Elizabeth Marvel’s character: “Why would he make such a vast universe yet save it only for us?”
A star-studded cast confronts first contact
Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson and Wyatt Russell. In the trailer, O’Connor’s character frames the discovery as a shared human moment, saying the truth “belongs to seven billion people.”
The film positions its ensemble against a backdrop of political tension and moral debate, suggesting that the arrival of aliens may expose as much about humanity as it does about life elsewhere.
Spielberg returns to familiar territory
The project marks Spielberg’s first film since The Fabelmans (2022), his semi-autobiographical drama that earned seven Academy Award nominations. With Disclosure Day, he revisits themes that defined earlier works such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds.
Josh O’Connor describes the film as “old-school Spielberg,” adding that audiences are likely to respond to its emotional pull.

Emotional reactions from the cast and writer
David Koepp, who reunites with Spielberg for the project, calls the film deeply emotional. Colman Domingo echoes that sentiment, saying the script moved him to tears. He describes it as a story rooted in humanity and belief in what people are capable of becoming.
Timely release amid renewed UFO interest
The film’s marketing rollout aligns with growing public fascination around extraterrestrial life, fueled in part by the success of the documentary The Age of Disclosure, which alleges government secrecy around alien encounters. The documentary recently becomes Amazon Prime Video’s most-rented documentary within its first 48 hours.
Promotional billboards for Disclosure Day appear in Times Square, and the trailer is set to screen ahead of the latest Avatar film in theaters this month.
Release date and crowded summer slate
Disclosure Day is scheduled for a summer 2026 theatrical release. It arrives during a packed blockbuster season that also includes Toy Story 5, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Minions 3, Supergirl, a live-action Moana, and He-Man: Masters of the Universe.
