Taylor Frankie Paul is breaking her silence after the unexpected cancellation of her upcoming season of The Bachelorette, a decision that came just days before its scheduled premiere. The abrupt move followed the resurfacing of a 2023 video showing Paul involved in a domestic altercation with her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
In the video, Paul is seen physically attacking Mortensen, including hitting, kicking, and placing him in a headlock. The situation escalates further as she throws chairs while her young daughter is nearby, adding to public concern over the incident. Although details of the altercation had been previously reported and even featured in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the release of the footage reignited scrutiny.
Shortly after the video surfaced online, ABC announced it would pull Paul’s season entirely, despite having moved forward with production while aware of the incident and its legal consequences. Paul had previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault. Other charges, including child abuse, criminal mischief, and domestic violence in the presence of a child, were dismissed.
In her first public response since the cancellation, Paul, through a spokesperson, expressed gratitude for the network’s support while emphasizing her focus on her family’s well-being. The statement also introduced a different perspective, suggesting that Paul had endured years of mental and physical abuse, along with threats from her former partner.
According to the spokesperson, Paul has remained quiet out of fear of retaliation and public judgment, but now feels ready to confront the situation more openly. She is reportedly seeking support and considering how best to share her full story. The statement framed her experience as part of a broader issue, highlighting that many women face abusive relationships in silence.
Paul, who is a mother of three, shares a one-year-old child, Ever, with Mortensen. The two are currently navigating a custody dispute while co-parenting their child.
As the controversy continues to unfold, Paul’s comments suggest she intends to shift the narrative and address the allegations more directly in the future.
