INDIAN-AMERICAN Congressman Shri Thanedar has decided not to pursue his impeachment motion against president Donald Trump following pressure from fellow Democrats.
On Wednesday (14), the two-term representative of Michigan did not call up his resolution for a vote series, and the window for action has now passed.
Thanedar claimed that after consultation with his colleagues, he decided not to force a vote on impeachment, but vowed to add to his articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans.
He claimed that Trump has committed “more impeachable offenses” since initially filing his articles, including accepting a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar.
Many Democrat lawmakers claimed that their focus is on fighting the Republican party’s tax and spending cuts bill to vote, and they don’t want to get distracted by anything else.
House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries’ team managed to convince Thanedar to desist from forcing the party into an untimely impeachment vote.
Several Democrat lawmakers — including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Greg Casar of Texas, Brad Schneider of Illinois and Jamie Raskin of Maryland — had a word with Thanedar privately on the floor before it became apparent that he would not pursue his impeachment vote.
Earlier, Trump called Thanedar a ‘lunatic’ and claimed he had never heard of him. He even wondered whether he was a Congressman.
Trump supporter and MAGA activist Laura Loomer claimed that Thanedar was facing $800,000 in campaign debt and had moved the impeachment motion to pay them off.
