India had a heartbreaking series loss against Australia on Wednesday (22) when the visitors defeated them by 21 runs to clinch the three-match one-day international (ODI) series 2-1. But more than the team’s defeat, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s disastrous show with the bat in the series which became a hot topic for discussion on social media.

The 32-year-old batter, who has been liberally praised in the past for his batting improvisation in white-ball cricket, got out for a golden duck in Wednesday’s match which completed a hat-trick of golden ducks in the series. Yadav was caught plumb in front of wicket by Australia’s left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc in the first two matches and in the third, his timber were rattled by spinner Ashton Agar. Yadav came out to bat at No.7 in the third match but still he did not bother the scorers.

The dismal show with the bat also made Yadav the first Indian batter to be dismissed for first-ball ducks in all matches in a ODI series.

Other Indian batters who have made three successive ducks in the 50-over format are Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Anil Kumble.

Here are some reactions to Yadav’s dubious record in the series against Australia on social media:
