In a suspected case of gang clash, a 28-year-old man of Indian origin, who was on Canadian police’s most violent gangsters’ list, has been shot by unknown people at a wedding venue in Vancouver in the north American country.

According to a report in a local newspaper, the deceased Amarpreet (Chucky) Samra was on the dance floor at Fraserview Banquet Hall with other guests and was shot before 1.30 am local time.

It was also reported that both Amarpreet and his elder brother Ravinder, also a gangster, were invited to the wedding.

According to a few guests who spoke to the media, some unidentified men had returned to the hall and asked the DJ to stop the music. At the time, some 60 guests were present at the venue.

The police later said in a statement, “Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported one man had been shot outside a South Vancouver banquet hall near Fraser Street and South East Marine Drive at 1:30 a.m. Patrol officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived, but he died from his injuries.”

According to investigators, the case seemed to be one of targeted shootings related to an ongoing gang clash. Probe was still underway and anybody having an information related to it was requested to contact the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500, it further reads.

In August last year, the Canadian police had warned about 11 people over their alleged links to extreme gang violence and advised the public to avoid them. Amarpreet and Ravinder and seven others of Punjab-origin featured in the warning.
