Washington University in St. Louis issued an emergency alert Tuesday morning following reports of an armed person on its Danforth Campus.

The alert was sent at 9:18 a.m., warning students, faculty, and staff: “Armed person on Danforth Campus. Run, Hide, or Fight. If hiding, lock or barricade yourself in a room until further notice. If off campus, stay away.” The university directed the campus community to monitor updates through its emergency website.


In a follow-up update at 9:34 a.m., campus police said officers were checking buildings near Brookings Hall after receiving reports of a person possibly carrying a weapon. Authorities emphasized that there was no confirmation of an active shooter at that time.

Police asked individuals on campus to remain in place while they investigated the situation. Additional details were not immediately available as law enforcement continued searching the area.
