HE is generally known for his composure but Rahul Dravid, the coach of Team India, was found unusually ecstatic after India wicket-keeper-batter Rishabh Pant slammed a counter-attacking hundred against England in the rescheduled fifth Test of the 2021 series at Edgbaston.
India were left reeling at 98 for 5 after Ben Stokes won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. James Anderson and Matthew Potts went through the Indian top order and Jasprit Bumrah’s side seemed to be losing the plot fast. Pant came in at No.5 and scripted a massive fightback with spinner-all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who were still batting on 83 at and was assisted with Mohammed Shami. India ended the first day at 338 for 7, getting to spend a night of relief after the shaky beginning.

Coming back to Pant, the explosive southpaw launched his knock after tea and it was in the first delivery of the 58th over that he took two off Stuart Broad to complete his hundred, the final run ending in a desperate dive.
The entire Indian dressing room erupted in joy as the diminutive batter hit his fifth Test hundred and third against the Englishmen. It was also his second century on England soil, something a wicket-keeper-batter achieved for the first time. He eventually fell to irregular bowler Joe Root on 146 off just 111 balls, hitting 19 boundaries and four sixes.
Among them was Dravid whose reaction was incredible by his standards.
