CRICKET World Cup 2023 has witnessed some upsets this week with Afghanistan beating defending champions England on October 15 and the Netherlands routing South Africa on Tuesday (17). Both teams looked determined after losing their first two matches in the tournament to clinch the third game against powerful opponents to make the tournament interesting.
However, cricket fans in Pakistan were still recovering from the shocking loss they faced against India in Ahmedabad on October 14 and Islamabad United, a T20 franchise cricket team that competes in the country's Pakistan Super League, even took an indirect dig at the arch-rivals' win in the mega clash by suggesting that even India's win over Pakistan was an upset in this World Cup.
"Two upsets in two days! #CWC23 is already full of surprises," United tweeted at the end of the Afghanistan-England match, which was played a day after India thrashed Pakistan to extend their win record against the Men in Green in the mega tournament to 8-0.
The tweet soon faced a backlash as netizens, some even from Pakistan, slammed United saying it was only mocking the Pakistan team.
One Indian fan said even the Netherlands' defeat against Pakistan was an upset.
Another said, "Pak losing to India was an upset ? Admin ye sasta humour yahan maat dikha." (Admin, don't express your cheap humour here)
One Pakistani fan said, "Be mature.. You're not Farid Khan.."
Another Pakistani fan said, "Dear admin Ind vs pak was not an Upset game these 2 rivals have been playing each other since a long time plus india was already favourites for the yesterday's game because of having most players in form & obviously 1 lac 30 thousand indian fans."
