What began as a celebratory senior trip turned into a devastating tragedy for the Bentley University community when 22-year-old Gaurav Jaisingh, an Indian-American student, died in a tragic accident in the Bahamas just days before his graduation.

Gaurav, a finance major and resident of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was vacationing on Paradise Island with fellow seniors from Bentley University. According to Royal Bahamas Police, officers responded to an emergency call from a local hotel after reports of a man falling from an upper-level balcony. He was discovered unresponsive on a lower floor and was rushed to a hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries in transit.

Bentley University confirmed the heartbreaking news in a public statement, expressing deep sorrow: “We are profoundly sad to confirm that one of our students, Gaurav Jaisingh, passed away last night in a tragic accident during the annual senior class trip in the Bahamas. We share our deepest condolences with Gaurav’s family, friends, and loved ones. While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony.”

The incident has left classmates and faculty in shock. Senior student Sydney Bazin shared with local media, “He was gearing up for graduation this weekend, so I hope we take some time to honor him this weekend at graduation. So yes, it’s just actually heartbreaking.”

Another classmate, Isabella Abeiga, echoed the sentiment, saying, “It was the last thing I was expecting, especially just a few days away from graduation.”

Gaurav Jaisingh was known for his academic dedication and community involvement on campus. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, and actively participated in several other student-led organizations. His LinkedIn profile highlighted a passion for finance and leadership—qualities that made him well-liked and respected among his peers.

The university, which hosts a student body of around 5,600, has promised to share more details as they become available, while also respecting the privacy of Gaurav’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

The sudden loss of a promising young life just on the cusp of a new beginning has shaken the community deeply. As graduation approaches, friends and faculty are expected to pay tribute to Gaurav and reflect on his life and legacy—a reminder of how fragile life can be even in moments meant for joy.
