FORMER Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to avoid the use of cheerleaders and DJ music during the remaining Indian Premier League matches.

He said this should be done a mark of respect for those who lost their lives during the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and India-Pakistan border clashes.

The legendary batsman told Sports Today that considering what some families, who had lost their loved ones, are going through, there should be no music and “DJS screaming in the middle of an over”

“Let the games be played. Let the crowds come in. Let’s just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. It’s just no dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones,” he added.

The IPL 2025 was suspended last week following tense situation prevailing in several parts of north India.

The match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was suspended midway in Dharamsala last Thursday (8) following air raid alerts in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot.

But the announcement of the ceasefire on Saturday (10) paved the way for its resumption on May 17.

In the first match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be hosting Kolkata Knight Riders at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

As per the revised schedule, the final has been pushed to June 3 from May 25.

This forced rescheduling of the event may affect the availability of several players from England, South Africa and Australia, as it clashes with the international calendar.

The rescheduling is likely to impact the preparation of South Africa and Australia for the World Test Championship final beginning at Lord’s on June 11.

The Indian Premier League on Wednesday (14) allowed teams to make temporary replacements in their squad for the remainder of the tournament, considering the non-availability of a few foreign players.

Gujarat Titans is currently on top of the table with 16 points and superior NRR of 0.793, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (16 points, 0.482), Punjab Kings (15), Mumbai Indians (14), Delhi Capitals (13), Kolkata Knight Riders (11) and Lucknow Super Giants (10).
