Eighteen-year-old Aanisha Sathik, who had been missing for over a week in New South Wales, has been found safe and is now receiving medical assessment at a local hospital. The news brings relief to her family, police, and the wider community, who had been anxiously searching since her disappearance.

Disappearance and Search Efforts

Aanisha was last seen around 1pm on 23 June 2025 on Park Road in Auburn, a suburb of Sydney. She was reported missing the following day, prompting the Auburn Police Area Command to launch an urgent investigation. Authorities, fearing for her wellbeing, coordinated a multi-agency search and issued several public appeals for information.

Superintendent Robert Toynton, Commander of the Auburn Police Area Command, had earlier described the case as urgent, noting that Aanisha may have gone without food for several days and did not have a phone with her. Police also believed she might have been travelling via the city’s rail network.

Family’s Concerns and Public Support

Aanisha’s father, Sathik, spoke emotionally at a press conference, describing his daughter as a dedicated student who had scored 94 per cent in her VCE and aspired to become a doctor. He revealed that Aanisha had been struggling with anxiety and depression, and had gradually withdrawn from her circle of friends. “She doesn’t have anyone she regularly goes out with. We’re really scared now,” he said, expressing the family’s deep concern for her safety.

The case drew significant attention from the public and media, with many sharing information and supporting the search efforts. Police credited this community involvement as crucial in helping to locate Aanisha.

Safe Recovery and Police Gratitude

On 1 July, after days of searching and renewed appeals, Aanisha was found safe in the nearby suburb of Berala. She was immediately taken to hospital for assessment to ensure her health and wellbeing after her ordeal.

Authorities have thanked the public and media for their assistance throughout the search. Superintendent Toynton emphasized the importance of community support in such cases and urged anyone facing similar challenges to seek help.

Ongoing Support for Aanisha and Her FamilyWhile Aanisha’s safe recovery marks a positive outcome, her family and police have highlighted the need for ongoing support for young people dealing with mental health challenges. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and compassion in times of crisis.
