Complaint leads to police case

Police in Panchkula have registered a First Information Report against Indian rapper Badshah following a complaint about the lyrics and visuals in his recently released Haryanvi music video Tateeree.

The case was filed at the cybercrime police station after a local resident alleged that the song contained objectionable content and scenes. Authorities registered the FIR under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to obscene acts and songs.

According to the complaint, the video was released on the official YouTube channel of the rapper, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, and quickly went viral online.

Objections over lyrics and visuals

The complainant alleged that the song includes language and imagery that are offensive and send the wrong message to society. The FIR also mentions scenes showing girls dressed in school uniforms in a setting described as “Badshala,” which the complainant claimed is a distorted version of the word pathshala, meaning school.

The complaint argues that presenting a school environment in such a manner could negatively influence children and young viewers and potentially encourage disrespectful attitudes toward women and girls.

A police officer in Panchkula confirmed that the case has been registered based on the complaint and said an investigation is currently underway.

Women’s commission issues summons

The controversy has also drawn the attention of the Haryana State Commission for Women, which has taken note of the allegations and issued a summons to the rapper.

Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia said the body has asked Badshah to appear before it on March 13 and explain the use of the lyrics and scenes in the music video.

Meanwhile, Mahipal Dhanda, the education minister of the Indian state of Haryana, said the government has taken note of the matter and the concerns raised about the video.
