Wall Street, New York’s iconic financial hub, transformed into an exuberant dance floor as an Indian wedding procession, or baraat, made its mark in the heart of Manhattan. A now-viral video captured the spectacular moment, drawing widespread attention and a flurry of reactions across social media platforms.

The footage shows a large wedding party — more than 400 guests — joyfully dancing through the street dressed in vibrant Indian attire. With dhol beats and Bollywood tunes reverberating off the tall skyscrapers, the traditional North Indian celebration brought a splash of culture and energy to the usually stoic financial district.

“We shut down Wall Street for a 400-person baraat — who would’ve ever thought?!” wrote DJ AJ, who performed at the event, sharing a video clip of the joyous celebration. “Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of magic,” he added, clearly thrilled at the success of the unforgettable moment.

The video shows the groom and bride in the center of the festivities, wearing traditional wedding garments — the groom in a beige sherwani and the bride in a red lehenga. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple danced with uncontainable excitement, their laughter and energy mirrored by their guests. The iconic New York skyline created a dramatic backdrop, perfectly juxtaposing tradition with modernity.

Another angle of the celebration was posted by an Instagram user, who commented, “One can only imagine the $$$ they paid to close off a block of Wall Street, but this was damn fun to watch.” The comment reflects both admiration and astonishment at the scale of the event.

The response online, however, was mixed. Some users were in awe of the vibrant culture and the grand celebration in such a unique setting. But others questioned the practicality and social impact of such a display.

“Why oh why do we come away from India to indulge in this ostentatious display of wealth!!! Do this without inconveniencing the public,” one user commented. Another added a humorous cultural critique, “The songs are so fired my inner Punjabi is offended by the lack of head-banging or the groom being uplifted. Adopt me and let me teach, please.”

A few netizens pointed out the logistical aspect. “If they took permission and paid for it, then we can not complain. Enjoy the fun,” one wrote, indicating that the celebration likely went through official channels before occupying a city street.

Amid mixed opinions, the Wall Street baraat stands as a shining example of how Indian weddings are evolving — taking cultural traditions far from home and blending them with international flair. Whether seen as a bold statement of heritage or a disruptive display, the baraat certainly turned heads and reminded everyone of the joy such celebrations bring, wherever they take place.
