Odenkirk reflects on Saul Goodman’s future

Bob Odenkirk has addressed the possibility of a Better Call Saul revival, three years after the hit drama concluded its six-season run.

Speaking on NBC’s Today show, the actor said he would be open to returning as Saul Goodman but was not optimistic about the prospect.

“That part turned my life around, and I’ve given more to that part than anything I’ve done,” Odenkirk said. “Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould created that show. They are some of the best writers who ever worked in TV. So if they were to think of something in that world, of course I would do it.”

“He’s not getting out”

In the series finale, Saul Gone, broadcast on 15 August 2022, Saul Goodman accepted responsibility for his years of criminal activity, including his work alongside Walter White, and received an 86-year prison sentence.

Odenkirk noted that any continuation of the story would likely remain within that setting. “He’s not getting out [of prison]. If there’s another Saul show, it takes place inside prison,” he said.

Moving on from Better Call Saul

Although enthusiastic about the character, Odenkirk suggested the creative team is unlikely to revisit the series. “I don’t think so. I think they’ve all moved on to some more amazing projects that you’ll soon see,” he added.

Legacy of the series

Better Call Saul, which aired from 2015 to 2022, was a prequel to Breaking Bad. It explored Saul Goodman’s transformation from small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill into the flamboyant criminal defence attorney central to Walter White’s empire.

The show received multiple nominations for Golden Globe and Emmy Awards, with Odenkirk’s performance widely praised by critics.
