Campbell addresses fans directly
Bruce Campbell has shared that he has been diagnosed with cancer, describing it as treatable but not curable.
The 67-year-old actor posted a message to fans on X on Monday, saying that what is often referred to as a health “opportunity” in modern terms was, in his case, a cancer diagnosis. He acknowledged the news may come as a shock, adding that it had been the same for him.
Campbell said he would not provide further medical details but explained that professional commitments would need to be scaled back while he undergoes treatment. Public appearances, convention dates and other work engagements will take a back seat for the time being.
“I’m not trying to enlist sympathy or advice,” he wrote, noting that he wanted to address the situation himself before misinformation spread. He added that he has strong support and expressed confidence about continuing treatment, signing off with a message of appreciation to fans.
Work pauses as treatment begins
Campbell said several summer convention appearances have been canceled, calling the decision a regret but necessary. He aims to focus on his health through the summer with the goal of returning to the road in the fall to promote his new film, Ernie & Emma.
The road-trip comedy, which Campbell both stars in and directs, centers on a widowed pear salesman traveling to scatter his wife’s ashes. An early screening in Portland, Oregon, has already sold out.
Campbell first rose to prominence playing Ash Williams in The Evil Dead, directed by Sam Raimi, and later reprised the role in Evil Dead II. He currently serves as executive producer on the upcoming installment, Evil Dead Burn, which is scheduled for theatrical release in June.
