- Netflix confirms Wednesday will skip 2026 and return in 2027
- Season 2 premiered in fall 2025 with new cast additions
- 2026 will focus on franchise finales and major returning titles
Wednesday officially moves out of 2026
Netflix has confirmed that Wednesday, led by Jenna Ortega, will not return in 2026. Instead, the series is now set to come back in 2027. The decision reflects a broader production strategy in which some shows move on a yearly cycle, while larger titles take longer gaps between seasons.
Series such as The Diplomat and The Night Agent are being positioned for more regular releases, while blockbuster shows like Wednesday are moving into a slower schedule.
What happened in season two
The second season of Wednesday premiered on September 3, 2025. It introduced new cast members including Lady Gaga and Steve Buscemi. The show had already built strong momentum after its 2022 debut, which earned four Emmy Awards.
In season two, Wednesday Addams returned to Nevermore Academy to confront a new enemy and try to stop Enid from dying. The season continued the darker tone that made the series one of Netflix’s biggest hits.
Netflix’s plan for 2026
Even without Wednesday, Netflix says 2026 will be packed with major releases. The platform is preparing to roll out the final seasons of Outer Banks and The Witcher. Viewers will also see new seasons of Bridgerton, the live-action One Piece, and A24’s Beef.
The reshuffle is meant to spread out major releases across different years, giving each title more room to stand out.
Why 2027 matters for Wednesday
By moving Wednesday to 2027, Netflix is positioning the series as one of its key future launches. The longer break is expected to help rebuild anticipation after the 2025 season.
With several major franchises closing in 2026, Wednesday’s return in 2027 is being set up as a fresh anchor for Netflix’s next phase of big scripted series.
