As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, Chinmaya Mission is organizing a global initiative that aims to set a Guinness World Record through a synchronized chanting of the Bhagavat Gita.
Scheduled for May 9, 2026, the event titled 'Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam' will bring together an estimated 108,000 participants from around the world to chant Chapter 15 of the Bhagavat Gita in unison.
The effort is being positioned as both a spiritual offering and an official record attempt for the largest coordinated online chanting. Participants are expected to join from multiple continents, including strong participation from the UK, where communities are preparing to take part from their homes as part of this global event.
The Bhagavat Gita, a 700-verse dialogue exploring life, purpose, and self-mastery, is considered one of the most influential spiritual texts in the world. Chapter 15 is seen as a concise summary of its teachings, addressing key questions about identity, the nature of reality, and the path to inner freedom.
The chanting event is also a tribute to Swami Chinmayananda, whose teachings helped make the Bhagavad Gita accessible as a practical guide for everyday life. Through his global lectures and his commentary The Holy Geeta, he introduced its message to audiences worldwide.
According to Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, the initiative is intended as a collective spiritual expression. “This initiative is a beautiful way for seekers everywhere to come together and offer the Gita as a collective prayer. When thousands chant together, the message of the Gita resonates far beyond the individual.”
The event is open to everyone, including beginners with no prior experience in Sanskrit chanting. Participants can join from home, with free online training sessions and study materials available in the weeks leading up to the event.
More than 21,000 people have already registered globally, and organizers expect participation to increase significantly before registration closes on April 15, 2026.
While global in scale, the initiative is designed to be a personal and inclusive experience. Families, young people, and first-time participants are all encouraged to join, making it not only a record attempt but also a shared moment of reflection and connection across cultures and generations.
Chinmaya Mission hopes the event will not only achieve a world record but also inspire more people to explore and apply the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in their daily lives.
