Marvel confirms Steve Rogers’ return
Marvel Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, confirming that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers. The teaser, which debuted in theaters last week alongside early screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, reveals a new chapter for Captain America — one that includes fatherhood.
The upcoming ensemble film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Marvel is expected to roll out additional teasers centered on other characters in the coming weeks, continuing a gradual build toward the release.

Inside the first teaser
Set on a quiet farm, the teaser opens with Steve Rogers riding a motorcycle home as a soft piano version of the “Avengers” theme plays. He is seen admiring his Captain America helmet and holding a newborn baby, signaling a dramatic shift from the battlefield-driven arcs of earlier films.
The teaser closes with the words “Steve Rogers will return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’” followed by a countdown timer that lines up with the film’s release date. Marvel also unveiled the first poster for the movie, featuring a green color palette associated with Doctor Doom.
How ‘Doomsday’ connects to ‘Endgame.’
Captain America was last seen in Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Steve Rogers completed his mission to return the Infinity Stones across time. He later passed his Vibranium shield to Sam Wilson, elevating him from Falcon to the new Captain America, before choosing to live out his life with Peggy Carter.
The teaser raises new questions about Steve’s timeline and whether this version of Captain America has returned to the main MCU or represents a different variant. The identity of the child and their place in the story remain undisclosed.
Russo Brothers tease an emotional return
Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, are back to helm Doomsday. In a brief statement shared on Instagram, the filmmakers described Captain America as “the character that changed our lives,” adding that the story “was always going to come back to this.”
A larger reunion across the multiverse
Although Evans previously said he was “happily retired” from Marvel, Doomsday marks his return to the role that defined his MCU tenure. He is not the only familiar face coming back. Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Doctor Doom, while returning cast members include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, and Florence Pugh, among others.
Actors from the X-Men franchise — including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden — are also set to cross over, signaling that Avengers: Doomsday will push the Marvel multiverse further than ever before.
