A member of the Popular Front of India (PFI), an organisation which is accused of promoting radical Islam and has made the headlines this week after sleuths and police conducted raids against it at several parts of the country and arrested many, has now made a sensational revelation.
During an interrogation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), a member of the outfit in the southern state of Kerala has said that it had planned disturbances during prime minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the eastern state of Bihar in July, India Today reported.
Shafeeque Payeth, one of the arrested members, said the PFI organised a training camp on how to disrupt the PM’s rally and preparations were also made to stage protests with banners and posters.
The ED, which is a law and economic intelligence agency, also found that about Rs 120 crore had been collected by the PFI over the years, mostly in cash, to allegedly fund terror activities throughout India. The money reportedly came from not only various states but also abroad.
The outfit is facing a possible ban after the raids were carried out at 93 locations in 15 states across the country on Thursday (22). More than 100 arrests were made, including some from the union territory of Puducherry. The raids were conducted by the National Investigation Agency and state police forces, besides the ED, over the PFI’s alleged involvement in terror activities.
The outfit came up with a strong protest against the raids and on Friday (23), violence was witnessed in Kerala where the protesters pelted stones at government buses. Two policemen were also injured in clashes with miscreants.
