THE inaugural day of the 18th G20 summit in New Delhi was a successful one not just because it arrived at a declaration agreed by all, thanks to hard negotiations by host India, but also because it concluded on a happy note with all dignitaries attending the dinner hosted by president Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam, the official venue of the mega event on Saturday (9) evening.
Many of the guests were seen wearing Indian attire as they arrived for the dinner where they were warmly welcomed by Murmu and prime minister Narendra Modi. Besides the heads of state and their spouses, leaders of some renowned international organisations were also present at the event.
A specially curated all-vegetarian menu awaited the G20 dignitaries at the dinner.
The high-profile guests posed for pictures with Murmu and Modi in front of an image of Nalanda Mahavira, an ancient monastic university which is located in modern-day Bihar and was once a great seat for learning.
The legacy of the ancient institute goes back to the era of Buddha and Mahavira and reflected ancient India’s progress in disseminating knowledge and wisdom.
