Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi has spoken out about the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar” from the upcoming film KD – The Devil, saying she had no prior knowledge of the Hindi version and had warned the makers it would trigger backlash.
The controversy began after the Hindi version of the song, adapted from the original Kannada track “Sarse Ninna,” faced criticism online for its suggestive lyrics and choreography. The backlash intensified, leading to intervention by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which assured action in Parliament. The Hindi version was eventually removed from YouTube.
Nora clarified that she had originally filmed the song three years ago in Kannada and did not understand the language. She said she relied on the filmmakers’ explanations at the time and was not told anything that seemed inappropriate. According to her, the situation changed when she later heard the Hindi version.
“As soon as I heard it in Hindi, I knew there would be issues,” she said in a video message shared online. She added that she immediately warned the director that the song would attract criticism because she could clearly understand the lyrics.
The actor strongly denied any involvement in the creation or approval of the Hindi version. She stated that the track was released without her consent and that she was not consulted about the changes. She also raised concerns about the promotional material, alleging that a lyrical video featuring “unflattering photos” and even an AI-generated image of her and Sanjay Dutt was released without her approval.
Nora emphasized that maintaining her professional image is important and said she chose not to promote the song after realizing the potential controversy. “My image and reputation are on the line,” she said, adding that she had already distanced herself from the project.

In her statement, she also urged fans and social media users to stop sharing the track. She argued that continued circulation would only give the song more visibility and prolong the controversy. At the same time, she criticized personal attacks directed at her, calling them unfair and misplaced.
The backlash has drawn reactions from across the entertainment industry. Singer Armaan Malik, along with organizations like the All India Cine Workers Association and the National Human Rights Commission, condemned the song. Lyricist Raqueeb Alam also noted that concerns about censorship had been raised earlier.
Directed by Prem, KD – The Devil is scheduled for theatrical release on April 30. Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the song, the film’s release plans remain unchanged.
Nora concluded by pointing out that performers are often unfairly targeted in such situations, even when they are not responsible for creative decisions. She acknowledged that public backlash had ultimately led to corrective action, including the removal of the controversial version of the track.
