Ever since Elon Musk has taken over as the new owner of Twitter, the microblogging site along with him have been in the headlines for some reason or the other.

On Monday (7), Musk stirred up a controversy by allegedly mocking Mastodon, a new platform which has gained popularity in recent times as an alternative to Twitter, as “Masterbatedone”.

In a tweet, which was deleted later, Musk slammed users complaining about Twitter’s new updates and asked them to join “masterbatedone” instead. “If you don’t like Twitter anymore, there is awesome site called Masterbatedone,” he said.

Several users have exited Twitter to join other platforms such as Mastodon and Koo after the former’s high-profile change of ownership. In India, too, Mastodon has gained a lot of popularity.

It offers similar features as twitter but operates differently.

It is an open-source social networking service which allows the users to either host their own ‘community’ or join one which is already in existence.

However, it has been reported that Twitter is not doing too badly despite the controversies.

As per an internal document obtained by The Verge, Twitter’s daily user growth hit ‘all-time highs’ during Musk’s first week as its new owner.

The report said “Twitter’s monetisable daily user (mDAU) growth has accelerated to more than 20 per cent, while Twitter’s largest market, the US, is growing even more quickly”.
