Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday (26) accused prime minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to topple his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and called the saffron party “a serial killer of governments” which is on the prowl to bring down non-BJP governments in various states of the country.
The AAP’s national convenor also said that the BJP was poaching lawmakers from other parties with money “collected through GST (Goods and Services Tax) and hike in petrol and diesel prices”. He said the BJP is carrying out horse trading at the taxpayers’ expense has caused inflation in the country.
“We’ve calculated that 277 MLAs have come to their party (BJP), now if they would’ve given Rs 20 crore (£2 million) to each MLA then they’ve bought MLAs worth Rs 5,500 crore (£583 million). That’s why there’s inflation as they’re using all the money to buy MLAs at expense of common man,” he said in a speech in the Delhi assembly.
“They toppled several governments in the country till date – Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, MP, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya. There is a serial killer in the city who is committing one murder after the other. People choose a government, they topple it,” Kejriwal said while attacking Modi.
Earlier this week, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia accused the saffron party of trying to buy AAP lawmakers with millions and offered him the post of the chief minister if he broke the party.
The AAP has come under fire from investigative agencies as two of its big leaders and ministers had been raided in two separate cases of money-laundering and corruption.
While health ministry Satyendra Jain was raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and has been in jail for three months in relation to a money-laundering case, Sisodia’s residence was also raided by the Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the Delhi excise policy case.
