RAMESH Kumar, a legislator of the Indian National Congress in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, has sparked a controversy by remarking that leaders of the country’s grand-old party have made enough money in the name of the Gandhis, who have been leading the party throughout.
According to India Today, he lawmaker, who is known for courting controversy, said during a protest that his party organised to condemn the interrogation of Sonia Gandhi, the Congress’s interim president, by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the National Herald money-laundering case on Thursday (21), “We have made enough money for 3-4 generations in the name of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. If we can’t sacrifice this much, it won’t be good for us.”

Protests were held by top Congress leaders and workers against the interrogation with the 75-year-old Gandhi in New Delhi. While as many as 75 Congress parliamentarians, including some former ministers, were detained, the workers staged protests in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru where trains were halted and a car was set ablaze.
Kumar is a former speaker of the Karnataka legislative assembly and represents the Srinivaspur constituency. On Thursday, the Congress, which is also in the opposition in the state which is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party of prime minister Narendra Modi, took out a rally led by former state chief minister Siddaramaiah and state party president DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru in support of their president.
